Corte San Pietro Il Ritorno 2019
Corte San Pietro was a dream of the Ghidella family who have now been carefully tending their vineyards resting on the hill next to Moasca’s castle for three generations. The winery is located in Piemonte in the Nizza D.O.C.G. appellation and UNESCO World Heritage area, which is the region known for high quality Barbera grapes. Fabio represents the "return" which is the name of their Barbera d'Asti. The return because when his grandfather Annibale retired (1st generation), Fabio's father Luigi decided to study medicine and leave the agricultural family tradition. Fabio has embraced his roots and his grandfather's traditions to bring back the family legacy of wine making.
Thanks to Fabio the Ghidella family has grown from the small vineyard close to their home to 5 hectares that are in the organic conversion process. Fabio's grandfather passed down the lessons that grapes need to be grown naturally and that chemicals and pesticides have no place in the vineyard that is right next to their family home. Fabio also listened to and gravitated towards his grandfather's approach of traditional (natural) wine making that had been practiced in Italy for centuries before the advent of modern agri-business after WWII. The vineyards surround the beautiful village of Moasca with its wonderful Renaissance castle. Fabio collaborates with an excellent consultant in Claudio Dacasto, who is a young and well known enologist in Piemonte.
WINEMAKING: Barbera ferments in stainless steel tanks for almost 3 weeks before being racked for aging, again done in stainless steel. The wine ages for 1 year in tank before being bottled unfined, with a gentle filtration.
