Grapes: Albana

Danila’s Fricandò is an amphora fermented and macerated Albana, grown on the slopes of the Apennine Mountains. This ancient, almost unknown thick-skinned grape is native to the Bologna region just north of Marzabotto and is named after the
color of the grapes—’albus’ means white in Latin. It is also known as Elbing in Germany.
The 2020 was destemmed, then added to terracota vessels and spent 2 months on the skins in Tuscan terracota amphorae. The wine is bottled unfined, unfiltered and with just a drop of SO2, for a brightly oxidative, slightly ripe wine with herbal accents, a wonderful umami mouthfeel and a mineral-driven finish.
Soils: Clay
Elevation: 500-650 feet
Yeasts: Indigenous
Vinification: Macerated on the skins in Tuscan terracota amphora for 2 months.
Fining or Filtering: None
