La Sapata Babeasca Neagra
Babeasca Neagra meaning “Grandmother’s black grape”, is a late-ripening variety and therefore less-prone to damage from spring frosts. It is grown organically, then fermented with natural yeasts in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks and macerated with skins for 10 days. Fruity aromas with hints of Morello cherry. Well-integrated and velvety with a fruity aftertaste and a very long finish.
About La Sapata Winery
Organic certified winery from the Danube Delta, run by 2 Italians in love with Romanian terroir: Roberto and Roberto.
"Our business is the fruit of a project which reflects the criteria of ethical investment. Apart from the splendid geographical location and the potential of the land, we have also felt that this investment could lead to some kind of social change."
The population here has experienced moments of great difficulty, and even now, through necessity, many have to rely on their own resources to get by. As a result of this difficulty, many Romanians have had to emigrate to the cities and abandon the country and the vineyards.
It would be a real shame to do nothing to reverse this tendency. By preventing this exodus and by managing to ensure work for the population, the important tradition of wine production in the region will not be lost." (Roberto & Roberto, founders of La Sapata)
Roberto di Filippo is a passionate winemaker. Natural viticulture is his life, and he has made his dream into reality. He spends his time with the horses who help him cultivate the vineyards, and his concerns in Italy and Romania. You are unlikely to find him in a jacket and tie, but in boots and clothes more suitable for the vineyard.
Roberto Pieroni is a true wine-enthusiast. Although an agricultural entrepreneur in another field he is excited by the prospect of producing quality wines in his second Homeland.
