Somer’s Vineyard is one of the wildest vineyards we’ve sourced from. Head trained and dry farmed, the vineyard management is largely hands off. As a result, the vineyard really feels as though it’s part of the ecosystem, foraged more than farmed.
Planted around fifty years ago, the vines are likely direct descendants from the cuttings of Pais that were planted in the area by the Spanish missions, lending this particular sub-variety it’s local name. It’s a true piece of California’s pre-prohibition winemaking history.
Light in color and body, it is very aromatic with notes of dried herbs and fig, and finishes dry on the palate.
